The motive of the still-life was an important topic from the very first invention of photography because static objects accommodated the technical deficiencies. What was fascinating in the photography of the early 19th century and also interests contemporaries is the precise rendition of reality and its material outer skin, particularly of a world of glasses, blossoms or fruits.

The exhibition “still” is intended to present a selection of photographs beyond the borders of Lower Austria that show the media breadth as well as expansion in content of the iconography of the still-life today. Each artist is represented by an image that is characteristic of him or her. 40 examples from contemporaries document the experience of transience, and are however documents of a sensual dialogue with our reality that is ever more strongly retreating from the immateriality of visual communication. Besides the nude, the portrait, the landscape and the genre, all original topics of painting, still-life has become a central motive of photography as art.
