The work of Urfaut began in 1999 with the attempt to translate the language of analogue photography into the new digital age.

At Urfaut, photography is seen as an alchemistic process, if you consider analogously its strong chemical component since its early days. The author would like to pursue an analogue approach, with the necessary permutation of the tools and forms into the new scenario of the digital.

The newest work, Urtype, marks the starting point of a new digital chemistry and is presented in the Foto Forum gallery’s SCHAUFENSTER. The development techniques were created ad hoc by the author and are very similar to those of analogue photography with, however, an exclusively digital carrier: the symbolic alchemistic significance is thus respected and at the same time steered into new forms.

Urfaut brings to light a hybrid in which the immortal and archetypical soul of photography is inserted into a completely new digital body.

Urtype, as the name itself implies, would like to be more than a prototype, more an “original type” of a new digital time, capable of seeing the future and yet remaining in the specific content of the medium.

It is not only a question of the technique, but rather continues in 22 images that are burnt into the Urtypes. They show universal archetypical forms that, seen together, represent a kind of alphabet whose combinations generate an original language that directly appeals to the subconscious. In this way, the beneficiary is inspired to associate them for his or her own gratification, to play with them, and in so doing to keep creating new meanings.
