ANALOGICA 14

Avant-garde and experimental cinema, home movies archives, expanded cinema, and the practice of filmmaking once again take center stage at this year’s ANALOGICA program, returning to the historic center of Bolzano.
Set in the spaces of WAAG, we will present the screenings of Analogica Selection 14, featuring 42 films across 7 distinct programs. This year’s selection showcases a diverse array of highly compelling works from around the world.
At WAAG, we will also host a special retrospective dedicated to artist and filmmaker Dagie Brundert, who will be joining us from Berlin. She will lead a workshop on Super 8 filmmaking and eco-friendly, alternative development processes, held at Foto Forum.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

We go out and pick a few flowers, take some leaves and berries and tree bark with us and the kiwi and banana peels from breakfast, brew a soup out of it, add some yummy local beverage and vitamin C and washing soda, stir, enjoy the sudden chemical reaction that bubbles slightly, carefully sniffing at the scent that has never been smelled before and gives us the feeling of being somehow very close to (healthy) matter, art and reality!

What are film layers made of, what makes light, how do I act as a developer, how are we all connected and why do vegan food leftovers work – the magic of the haptic analog claws us and spins us into the universe of ecologically harmless organic soup development!

PROGRAM

  • Introduction to black and white Super8 film
  •  Introduction to Super8 film camera
  • Super8 film shooting
  • Black and white film eco processing
  • Film screening

Dagie Brundert has been working with film since the 1980s, when she first picked up a Super8 camera and never put it down. As an advocate for ecologically sustainable and experimental cinema, Dagie has created a universe of her own through her films, with film as the perfect medium for observing and exploring the world around her.

Dagie is a pioneer in alternative development processes, having moved away from conventional chemicals. She has developed actual recipes, using raw materials often discarded once they’re no longer edible, like vegetables or fruit. Her cinema is one of recycling, imperfection, and surprise.

At Analogica, Dagie offers a workshop exploring alternative and ecological development processes—using vegetables or fruit left forgotten in the fridge at home, or plants and flowers found along the roadside. A workshop that invites participants to experiment with the Super8 camera and, above all, with the film development process.

Two black-and-white films will be used, and at the end, all participants will receive a digitized copy of the filmed material.
