Rinko Kawauchi will retrace the Japanese photo book based on his work. Born in 1972 in Shiga, Japan, after studying photography, she worked in an advertising agency before becoming a freelance photographer. After the simultaneous publication in 2001 of the three photographic books Utatane, Hanabi and Hanako, she became famous in short amount of time, continuing to publish many other photographic books and receiving numerous prizes and awards. Today she is one of the most important contemporary Japanese photographers. The photographic book has a long tradition in Japan and is characterized by its particular aesthetics and materiality. It has become an essential means of expression for artists from the 60s onwards, and even today these books are coveted collectibles.
